2013 Highlights:
New renters moved into the rental property next door to the church in November of 2012 and continue to live there. A few minor electrical updates were made this year. There are still a few windows that need to be replaced.

As we have done for the past five years, we went to former TLC Pastor Kisten Thompson’s church, North Emanuel in St. Paul, and spent a morning cleaning up the lawn and parking lot area around the church.

Spit and Shine continues to help set up for, and take down from, the Outerwear Fair. They were also instrumental in setting up for the first annual TLC garage sale and took the leftover items to Family Pathways Thrift Store in Forest Lake.

Spit and Shine unloads food trucks every other week at Family Pathways. They also spent considerable time painting the inside of the new Food Shelf building in Chisago City and then helped them move from the old building in Lindstrom to the new building.

We prepped the Sunday School area downstairs for painting and installed wall boards and one new door. Door frames were highlighted by Woody Bjork.

A new garage was built, with the help of a grant from the Trinity Endowment Fund, which houses our church van (used for any church activities) and provides meeting and storage space for TLC’s Boy Scout Troop 159.  Spit and Shine finished the floor, insulated and installed wall boards, and helped run water and gas lines to the garage.

A new pop can trailer was made and funded by Spit and Shine and Spit and Shine members. Proceeds from the recycled pop cans go to the Youth Fund for summer trips. Special thanks to Aaron Wachholz for donating the paint job (and also detailing the van on a regular basis).

Some other Spit and Shine projects for 2013:

    • Cleaned the church rain gutters, trimmed the trees and hedges, raked leaves, planted flowers and shrubs
    • Wash windows weekly
    • Change the paraments in the sanctuary as needed
    • Made several trips to Wyoming with pop can for recycling; all proceeds go to the TLC Youth Fund
    • Went to member and non-member homes to do handyman projects
    • Drove people to and from treatment and doctors’ appointments
    • Helped Altar Guild decorate for Christmas

We were saddened this year by the passing of two dedicated, helpful and longtime members of Spit and Shine, Sherwin Johnson and Jerome Doerr.
